We understand you will be shopping around for quotes from other service companies to keep costs to a minimum but what do those quotes include and what other charges might there be?
We thought a few guide lines and tips on the right questions to ask might come in useful as many business end up stuck in a long and expensive contract with awful or non existent servicing and many extra charges that were accidentally forgotten about when the quote was issued!!
To follow are a few questions that you should ask any company that is quoting you.
Will you tie us into a long contract? If so, why?
Ask to see the terms and conditions before signing anything! (If a company is going to give a good service and not continually increase the price there is no need to tie you in.)
Are there any other charges other than those quoted?
There are many companies that will look much cheaper than everybody else. If it looks too good to be true it normally is.
Before you sign anything ask if there are extra charges for the following:
a) duty of care / waste transfer note (this is a legal document that you must be issued with)
b) congestion charge
c) fuel levy
d) emergency call outs.
It is also imperative that make sure you are not going to get regular steep price increases whilst locked into contract. Once agreed on any of these points GET IT IN WRITING!!
Will our service be at regular intervals?
You will find that many companies say they will service 12 times per annum. This is what they are contracted to do. However, some people find they have not had a service for four months and phone in to cancel only to find that as long as the company visit 12 times per year they are still keeping to the contract. So in theory they can service a site 9 times in two months to catch up!!
Will our sanitary disposal units be new, clean units?
You would think so wouldn't you! However, some companies operate an exchange service where your new sanitary disposal unit will be from a stock pool of sanitary disposal units in service. They issue you with a unit and when it is serviced it is taken away and replaced with another unit that has been on another site so you are never sure where your sanitary disposal unit has been last. The units are automatically sanitised not sterilised and then put back into service. (With our service your unit always stays on your site
and has a bag inside so nothing ever touches the sanitary disposal unit. It is then sterilised and polished all over.)
What will after sales service be like?
Many companies will do the business and then become very difficult to contact. Sales staff often have huge targets to hit and will say or do anything to get the business. (Our sales staff get paid bonuses on customer retention. Every year that goes by that you continue to use our services our people get a bonus. So you can rest assured that should you have any problems they will be resolved).
Will it be the company you sign with that actually services your site?
Many companies (especially web based firms) offer a national service. In fact a lot of them don't even service any of their customers, they simply sub contract out to a local firm and add a hefty mark up!! This means they cannot guarantee a quality service.
Will you still be here next year?
A large number of Internet sites offering fantastic deals come and go every month on the web. Make sure they have real offices (not virtual) and their own staff (many people pay for a whole year up front only to find the company no longer exists!)
I'm sure that after reading this buying a sanitary sanitary disposal unit service seems like a mine field! It really isn't you just need to make sure you ask these questions before signing and get it all in writing then everything will be fine. We wish you all the best with whichever company you decide to go with.
