How to Make Your Bathroom Eco-Friendly

The majority of businesses today are trying to reduce their carbon footprints and boost their green credentials in every way possible. Having an eco-friendly image can save companies money by being more energy efficient, and also increase public appeal by showing they are socially and environmentally responsible.

The first step is to try and make commercial buildings more efficient, and to look at renewable energy sources if possible. Every single room in an office, factory or other commercial property can be improved – including the bathroom. Here are some top tips for creating an environmentally conscious washroom.

Save water

Washrooms, especially commercial washrooms with a high number of visitors, use a lot of water. One of the best ways to make a bathroom more eco-friendly is to reduce water usage, which can be done in a number of ways. First of all, repair any leaks even a slow dripping tap, as this can add up to litres of wasted water over time. You can fit aerated or regulated flow taps on the sinks, which are very efficient at saving water without inconveniencing the user.

You can also reduce the amount of water which is used to flush toilets, with a range of devices. For urinals, search for water management systems which can reduce water consumption while keeping the area sanitised.

Efficient hand dryers

There are many opinions in the industry about which method of hand drying is most eco-friendly. Paper towels create more waste, while electric hand dryers use more energy. Consider how much electricity your current hand dryer is using, and see whether switching to a more energy efficient model could be more economic.

Recycled toilet paper

Commercial bathrooms go through a vast amount of toilet paper – so it makes sense to use recycled products. Deforestation is a huge environmental problem, and opting for recycled toilet paper is a way to ensure we don’t ruin the planet just to wipe our bottoms! You could also opt for toilet roll holders which limit the amount users can take at once, to limit wastage.

LED lighting

A really easy way to reduce the amount of energy a washroom uses is by replacing lighting with LED bulbs. There are so many benefits to LEDs – they are more energy efficient resulting in energy savings, they last longer, don’t contain toxic materials and can be recycled.
