We proudly share on our website logos of various organisations. Are they just vanity or do they actually mean anything? To us, here at Liberty Hygiene, they actually mean a lot of blood, sweat and tears and the open door to many of our major customers. We’ll open with the ISO standards – the premier international standard.
ISO stands for the International Organisation for Standardisation. This is an independent, non-governmental international organisation with its HQ in Geneva. International Standards make things work. They give world-class specifications for products, services and systems, to ensure quality, safety and efficiency. They are instrumental in facilitating international trade.
ISO standards are what major chains, large businesses and corporations look for when sourcing suppliers. They know that to have achieved an ISO award, an organisation is demonstrating long term and ongoing commitment to quality.
We are immensely proud to have achieved both ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 status. Achieving and maintaining these awards is no mean feat for any organisation but the benefits they bring not only when securing new contracts but internally, in the day to day running of the business, are enormous.
(We were going to say immeasurable but if you can’t measure something in ‘quality’ terms, then it doesn’t count!!)
ISO 9001 – to hold this a company needs to:
- a) demonstrate its ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, and
- b) aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for improvement of the system and the assurance of conformity to customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
In a nutshell ISO 9001 means that our customers know they have complete and transparent traceability on our products and service and that quality control is managed 24/7 365 days of the year
ISO 14001 – specifies the requirements for an environmental management system that an organisation can use to enhance its environmental performance. A perfect fit for us at Liberty Hygiene when our whole raison d’etre is to provide hygiene services of the highest quality.
But we haven’t rested on our laurels with two premium Quality badges.
We are also SafeContractor approved. This is a standard for the Construction industry. SafeContractor proves to our Construction customers that we are meeting legal requirements when working on site. Alongside this standard, it made complete sense to achieve the Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP) accreditation. SSIP Core Criteria is aligned to the Government-backed construction pre-qualification document PAS 91, ensuring consistency within supply chain management.
However, we don’t leave any stones unturned in our quest for excellence. We would advocate to any business to join their industry associations and that’s what we’ve done with membership of Cleaning & Support Services Association (CSSA) and The Independent washroom Services Association (IWSA)
The CSSA is the membership organisation for cleaning companies which provides support for members to grow in skills and knowledge. They also lobby on behalf of members endeavouring to ensure all legislation is favourable to our industry. We are sub-contractors for many of the biggest and best cleaning companies so it made sense for us to take membership and better understand the challenges they face and exactly what these companies seek from their sub-contractors. The CSAA also affords us a lot of networking opportunities to meet and mingle with top contacts. In our opinion there is so much to be learnt by speaking with fellow providers: best practice, innovations, industry news and alliance opportunities.
The IWSA is just that – an alliance of independent providers who have committed to a quality service level and set of principles that give confidence to customers with nationwide sites but who want to work with local, quality service providers. It allows national companies to clearly support “Buy Local”. It allows members to confidently tender for nationwide contracts knowing that the membership network is there to support and deliver alongside them.
All of these standards and industry groups come at a price though, both financially and in staff time and effort. But at Liberty Hygiene we reckon it is all an essential investment in our growth, not a vanity expense to have some fancy badges on our website. We do live and breathe commitment to excellence and like to think that is reason that we continue to grow so rapidly.
